Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd

I have had a lot of experiences lately that have been teaching me to love others. I want to learn to love others because I know that charity is something I am lacking, and that is really the most important thing I can learn to do. Have charity for others. And I feel that charity is learning to love others the way Christ loves all. My favorite quote about charity is from Marvin J. Ashton's talk "The Tongue can be a Sharp Sword."

"Charity is, perhaps, in many ways a misunderstood word. We often equate charity with visiting the sick, taking in casseroles to those in need, or sharing our excess with those who are less fortunate. But really, true charity is much, much more.
Real charity is not something you give away; it is something that you acquire and make a part of yourself. And when the virtue of charity becomes implanted in your heart, you are never the same again. It makes the thought of being a basher repulsive.
Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other.
None of us need one more person bashing or pointing out where we have failed or fallen short. Most of us are already well aware of the areas in which we are weak. What each of us does need is family, friends, employers, and brothers and sisters who support us, who have the patience to teach us, who believe in us, and who believe we’re trying to do the best we can, in spite of our weaknesses. What ever happened to giving each other the benefit of the doubt? What ever happened to hoping that another person would succeed or achieve? What ever happened to rooting for each other?
It should come as no surprise that one of the adversary’s tactics in the latter days is stirring up hatred among the children of men. He loves to see us criticize each other, make fun or take advantage of our neighbor’s known flaws, and generally pick on each other. The Book of Mormon is clear from where all anger, malice, greed, and hate come."

And, a song has really come to mean a lot to me, "Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd." Not a song we sing often, or is popular, but the words speak truth, and I came to a bright realization, that even though there are those that make huge poor decisions, and are doing some pretty nasty and evil things, the Lord still loves them and wants them back into His fold. I need to remember that as I interact, and learn to love them also so I can be an instrument in bringing them back.

My niece is staying with me for a week, and the poor girl is so sick. So, last night I stayed up and blogged (while waiting for her fever to go down), and while the boys are at church, I am home with her and thought that blogging was a good Sunday activity. That is why I have so many blogs right now. Just FYI.

Breakfast balls?

My boys love "edilskeeters" (aebelskivers) as Aidan calls them--or pancake puffs, I've heard them called. In any case, every once in awhile, we will do a special breakfast of these. (the photo above is what they look like as I cook them) I sometimes put bananas or blueberries inside them! And not as often, a chocolate chip or marshmallow... We make a bunch (I just use the Bisquick pancake recipe) and then freeze the extras. They love to pop them in the microwave for a quick snack!

Look alikes and unders...

Weston loves to look like his daddy. Every Sunday it is imperative that he has a white shirt and tie (and preferrably the tie the same as well). A few weeks ago, his cousin gave him his old suit coat, and despite the 90 degree weather, he wants to wear it to church. Aren't they so handsome together? I am so glad he wants to be like his daddy. Scott is the greatest guy, so I want Weston to end up just like him! We took advantage of his desire to be like his dad, and did a family home evening on being like Jesus. It turned out great. Aidan is growing up, but such a little boy! Here he is with a new car toy (from Grandma for his birthday) and notice him stretch up high---and show of his unders!!! Doesn't help that those pajamas are WAY too big... They had fallen down quite a bit. Didn't stop him, though!

The prophet said to plant a garden

So that is what we did! Scott is so good at gardening, and this year has been great for us. I harvested our peas this morning, and we are constantly getting lettuce. Soon our tomatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots, beans, and broccoli will be ready for consumption, and the pumpkin will be ready for Halloween! Brennan is sitting up!

Brennan is finally sitting up! He still needs me to be close and catch him as he starts to fall over, but in a week or so it'll be so nice when he can sit and play by himself!

Lemonade Stand

I just think this is really cool. Go to www.sunkist.com/takeastand and order a FREE lemonade stand. Then, your kids can sell lemonade and donate money to a charity. A great way to teaach your kids about charity, etc, and so much fun. The website has tons of great info. Last year we had a lemonade stand and the kids loved it and got about 6$ (for a four year old that is great!--of course one guy gave us about 3$...)
