The Prophet -- Memories

It is sad to hear that President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away tonight. We were visiting Scott's parents when his grandma called to tell us (she had been watching the tv, when the news came on). The first thoughts that went through my mind were how sad, but quickly changed to what rejoicing must be going on in heaven --as they say in spanish, "Hay una fiesta en los cielos" (there is a party in heaven)--It sounds kind of funny, but it is true. There is a celebration in heaven. A great reunion.
I have to share my story of when I met President Hinckley. I was a sophmore at Ricks College, and was dating Mark Bennion. His father was the president of Ricks at the time, and President Hinckley was coming to speak for a regional conference. Mark invited me to meet at his house and then we would go to the conference together. It was noonish, and I arrived at his house, jumped out of the car, and started towards the front door. I looked over with curiousity at a big black car, and a big guy stepped out of it and looked at me curiously. Thinking nothing of it, I continued. A passenger van was also sitting outside the house, with some people sitting in the front seats. I excitedly waved and them, accidently throwing my keys into the air. After retrieving them, I got to the door and knocked. President Bennion answered the door, and Mark came and showed me into the kitchen. The dining room door was opened, and there, at the head of the table sat President Hinckley. I am really slow--for some reason I didn't think that he would be there--it didn't even pass through my mind. But, he was, along with Elder Maxwell, his wife, Elder Condie, a few others, and of course Mark's family. I was a bit suprised, and it showed. President Hinckely said to me, "Hello! How are you?" I said, "I'm great! How are you?" To which he replied, "Not as good as you, it seems!" And he chuckled. So did everyone else.
Also, one time I went to church in his ward (by accident), and it was so interesting (that really isn't the word I'm looking for...) for me to see him sitting up on the stand and have someone pass the sacrament to him and watch him partake of it. There was the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a man who walked and talked with God, our spiritual leader, and he renewed those sacred covenants, just as we all do on Sunday. I am so grateful that I have been able to have these experiences and others. I am grateful that I have been blessed to live at this time with a prophet on the earth. I am grateful my boys have listen to his words and been able to see him--we were just able to go to a regional conference downtown and the boys saw him. How lucky and blessed! Our little family loves him!

Oh remember, remember
Last night for FHE, Scott and I read "Oh remember, remember" by President Erying. As soon as we started reading I said, "I am going to start feeling guilty!" And then as we read, I thought back on the day. It started fine, but then post-pregnancy emotions and etc (you moms know what I am talking about...) kicked in and I was a grump. Poor Scott. He had to deal with me. And as I looked back over the day, I saw the hand of the Lord in my life. Scott had come home early from work, took the boys out to play in the snow, cleaned up the kitchen, made dinner, cleaned up the kitchen again, and tried everything he could to make me happy. I am so thankful for someone so helpful and supportive.
I also thought of my children and how much I love them! I am grateful for others who have paved the way before and write things down so we can learn. Specifically I am thinking of the author of "The baby whisperer". I am trying to figure out how to get my Brennan to sleep better, and the book is really helping! Anybody else have great tips for me?
We had a wonderful time in Rexburg. The boys loved the temple, though it was a lot of walking. After going through the temple, we went to eat at Frontier Pies (I used to work there) and met my friend (who I met while working at Frontier Pies) Cal Murdock. We had a wonderful time reminiscing on the good ol' days! We also got together for dinner with our friends, the Hansens, who used to live near us here in Herriman, but moved to Rigby. I love friends! We had a lovely time with everyone and my family. We are planning a trip back up to Idaho in the summer to do some canoeing down warm river and some vacationing.

Rexburg Temple Open House

We are so excited!!! We are going up to Rexburg tomorrow to visit my family, and to go through the temple open house! I am mostly excited for the boys to be able to go to a temple open house and be able to see the inside of such an amazing and holy place. I don't know how much they will grasp, but hopefully it will be memorable. And they can keep their pamphlets, tickets, or whatever and when they have kids and grandkids they can show them and say that they went to it. My grandfather went to the Salt Lake Temple Dedication (Crazy, no? He was born in 1884!!!). It is so great to finally have a temple in Rexburg. So close... well, not to me, but to my family... And every time we visit, we can just pop up to the temple! We are so lucky to live in the Salt Lake Valley and have so many temples so close by. Within 30 minutes of my house are the Salt Lake, Jordan River, Oquirrh Mountain (not yet opened), Draper (not yet opened), and the Mt. Timpanogos temples! Wow!
I'd love to see any Sugar friends while there... give me a call (my parents house) if you are around!

Brennan's Blessing
Brennan Sale Daw was blessed on January 6, 2007! It was a great day. My parents came down from Idaho, my Uncle Matt and Aunt Barbara came, and all of Scott's family. The blessing was beautiful, he is a special boy. After church we had everyone over for lunch to celebrate the blessing (if that is something you "celebrate") and Scott's birthday.

We tried to take a photo of the family before church--I just had to add it for all to see. This is really what it is like around the Daw household. I must be crazy trying to get a family photo in. We had church at 9 am, and Scott had been gone to meeting since 6:30 or so. I got all three boys ready, myself ready (with my new hair-do....), and needless to say, things were rather hectic. Fortunately, my parents were here to help.

Happy Birthday Husband!
Here is a toast to my wonderful husband! It was his birthday yesterday--31 years young. (And today is his "second" birthday--each year he has one on the 6th, his actual birthday, and on the 7th, the day I always think is his birthday. I have a bad memory... so we just let him have two birthdays) He is the most wonderful man in the world. He has so many great qualities--kind to everyone, patient with me, helpful with "chores", loving with the boys, funny (I have never laughed so hard!--remember the lotion up the nose, honey?), hardworking, faithful, loyal, and too many other qualities to write down. I am way too lucky to have him and totally undeserving. A great example of how great he is: last night--on his birthday--he said he would stay up with the baby because I was so tired. (Don't worry, I didn't make him...) He is just great. I wish I could express myself better, because I am just not doing him justice. Scott, I love you!
Happy Birthday
